Vintage Telephones

Remember when everyone had one of these hanging on the wall in their kitchen?

I was browsing a local second hand store the other day when I came across this black wall phone for a mere $9.95 and I thought of the perfect spot in my kitchen for it! Of course it is not a working phone, merely for decorative purposes but I just love it!

Baby Bed Bench

I have always loved the idea of turning a baby bed you are no longer using into a bench:
Here is one I found on the internet for those of you who, like myself, just can't let go of precious treasures!

This was one of my latest projects. I have been slowly adding a few black accents to my home. This is an apothecary cabinet that I got several years ago. It is made of pine and it had a very light stain on it. I just love the cabinet but felt like it was in need of an update. I painted the knobs an off-white and then distressed some of the drawers and edges. The lace runner is an antique I picked up at a local auction.

A little wall art I created for my daughter Randee's bedroom. I used some wall paper for the background and jewels that came on a purse to add to the frame that I painted black. I will be posting more pictures of her bedroom when I am finished....

My mom took this photo of my sister and I baking when we were little. I have it on the counter in my kitchen to remind me of simpler times.

My "shabby" cabinet I purchased at a store that was closing. I love the way it shows off my vintage family photos.

My sweet shabby yellow bathroom

These were ornaments I purchased after Christmas. I printed out numbers for the year our house was built to put on a shelf above my kitchen window.

Valentine's Day Garland

Make a garland of hearts cut from fabric scraps layered and attached with iron-on adhesive. Punch small holes in the sides of the hearts and tie them together with ribbon.

My Mother-in-law's CARAMEL NUT ROLL Recipe

2 c. warm water 1 egg
2 pkgs. dry yeast 1/4 c. melted shortening
2 tsp. salt 6 1/2 - 7 cups flour
1/2 c. sugar cinnamon

carmel mixture:
1/2 c. butter 2 T. corn syrup
1 c. brown sugar 1 c. nuts

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar and salt to dissolve; let stand about 10 minutes. Add 1/2 of the flour and beat well for 2 minutes. Add egg and shortening. Knead in rest of flour. Cover with damp cloth and let rise until doubled in size. Roll dough out on a well floured surface. Spread dough with butter (softened), sugar, and cinnamon. Roll dough into a log. Cut into desired size. Combine caramel mixture ingredients, except nuts in saucepan. Cook until blended. Grease sides of large pan, spread caramel in bottom of pan. Sprinkle nuts over caramel. Place rolls on top of caramel and nuts. Let rise until rolls have doubled. Bake at 350 degrees about 20 minutes. Turn onto baking sheet, as soon as they are removed from oven. Makes about 20 rolls.

These are really worth the work!!
